‘A historic competition’, were Kirsten Otchere’s words when asked about what the FA Cup means to him as he prepares to make his first appearance in the competition on Saturday.
The Cheltenham Town forward joined on loan in the summer from Leicester after previously signing his first professional contract with the Foxes.
He has made 12 appearances so far this season and is preparing for Cheltenham’s first round FA Cup game against Halifax.
‘It’s a blessing to be able to play in this competition, I really hope I can get a goal, and just make a positive impact to the team.’
Otchere joined the Leicester City youth system, making his way through the academy age grades and has memories of their famous FA Cup victory against Chelsea in 2021.
‘Leicester won the FA Cup and seeing Youri Tielemans score it was great, any games mean a lot but I think this is really going to mean a lot to me.’
He isn’t the only youth player who joined on loan from Leicester this summer, teammate Jake Evans made the same move in search for more minutes in the professional game.
‘There is a big difference between academy and professional football, it takes time to adapt but having Jake here also helps to make it easier.’
So, as he awaits to make his mark, what was his earliest FA Cup memory growing up?
‘Drogba against Tottenham at Wembley, I’m a Chelsea fan and he was one of my idols growing up.’
