Forest Green Rovers captain Jordan Moore-Taylor has left the club after six seasons. The 32-year-old has been released by the club despite discussions taking place over a new contract. Moore-Taylor made the move south to Rovers on a free transfer after being released by MK Dons.
The centre-back made over 178 appearances for Rovers scoring eight goals, Moore-Taylor experienced both the highs and lows of football during his time in Gloucestershire.
The highlight of his Rovers career was no doubt being part of the team that managed to win the League Two title in the 2021-22 season seeing the club promoted to League One for the first time in their history.
Moore-Taylor was a crucial part of the success making forty appearances in the league that season scoring two goals.
However, the next two seasons saw back-to-back relegations for Rovers seeing them fall out of the football league and into the National League.
The final two seasons of Moore-Taylor’s Rovers career brought heartbreak once more with back-to-back playoff losses first to Southend United and then to Boreham Wood.
The experienced Englishman has made twenty-three appearances this season for Robbie Savage’s men in the league and two appearances in the National Cup. However, despite talks with the club earlier this month, it was announced he would not receive a new contract. Injury issues may have played a part in the clubs decision to let him go.
An ankle break meant he missed most of the middle part of the season, before a foot infection ruled him out of the play-off quarter-final loss to Boreham Wood.
Rumours had linked Moore-Taylor to a move to Torquay United however, the move is in bit of doubt after United lost the National League South play-off final to Hornchurch. This means he would have to make a decision on whether he wants to step down a division or search for another National League club.
Moore-Taylor is one of nine players to be released with Harry Isted being the highest profile player outside of Moore-Taylor.
The goalkeeper who joined earlier in the season from Aldershot made thirty appearances this season however, he was denied a new contract due to budget issues.
