The University of Gloucestershire (UOG) men’s football team put on a dominant performance against the University of Plymouth on Wednesday, securing a convincing 3-0 win at Plock Court.
Quick fire second half goals from Adam Smith and Dylan Venn gave Gloucester the 2-0 lead before a superb left-footed free kick by Macsen Rhys-Williams rounded off the scoring.
In an interview with the free kick goal scorer, he revealed “If you asked me to do that again I couldn’t” he laughed.
Still jovial from the goal: “We’ve been practicing in training, and I have been nominated so I gave it a go and smashed it into the top corner, didn’t I?

“I’m quite happy with myself and it’s been recorded so I’ll be watching that over and over again.”
The game started slowly with both sides struggling to get their passing game going and went into half-time at 0-0.
That didn’t last for long though, with Smith’s powerful effort beating the goalkeeper and giving the home side the lead early into the second half.
The supporters didn’t have to wait much longer for a second goal with captain Venn’s effort steered into the back of the net and doubling the host’s lead.
The final goal of the afternoon was worth the wait, after a foul on the edge of the area with Rhys-williams stepping up and his left-footed effort curled into the top left corner, taking the game out of reach and secured the three points.
This result meant that the UOG men’s first team remain unbeaten in-home games and move to within a point of top of the league Exeter three’s with games in hand.

In an interview after the game with goal scorer Smith, he revealed that “It was a good performance but the first half we were a bit sloppy.”
When asked what was said at half time for the team to take it up a level he revealed “it was sloppy and Ivor (manager) said we must move the ball quicker one, two touches and I think we did that in the second half, but we know we still have levels to go.”
UOG sit in a strong position in the BUCS Western tier three league and hope to keep the momentum going for the rest of the games “We’re in a great position but we need to finish the job we haven’t finished anything yet so keep going game by game and keep winning.”
It was an enjoyable cold evening game for the UOG side who will be looking to win the league, and this will fill them with confidence to keep on going.
The next fixture for the side is Exeter four’s at Plock court and they will hope to maintain their unbeaten home record and keep their league hopes alive.
