Tuffley Rovers progressed through to the quarter-finals of the Gloucestershire FA Challenge Trophy on Tuesday night with a 2-0 victory over Cheltenham Saracens.
Goals from debutant Gino Valenti and Hubert Zatorski within the last 10 minutes of the game handed Rovers the victory as they wait for either Shirehampton or Hallen in the next round.
Star-striker Karnell Chambers reflected, “I think it’s been a while since Tuffley last won a trophy so it would be nice to get this across the line and win the competition for the club.
“It’s always nice to go on a good cup run, I tend to treat every game the same and whether it is a league or cup game, I always want to win.”
Tuffley’s last cup competition trophy came over 20 years ago defeating Brackley Town over two legs in the final.
The former Merthyr Town striker Karnell Chambers scored four goals in a 7-3 thrashing of Lydney Town last week.
The in-form goal threat credited his “experience at higher levels” and “still having my speed” as the biggest factor for him still being able to get in behind and score goals against Hellenic League opposition.
Chambers has now scored 17 league goals in just 24 games and has a total of 19 for the season.
The 27-year-old credited his teammates for providing assistance allowing him to score as many as he has.
“Scoring goals as a striker without good quality players behind to provide service is very difficult. Kieran Alder and Corey Warrington are brilliant for the team, especially when it comes to attacking and creating chances, making my job even easier to score the goals.”
Tuffley take on local rivals Fairford Town tomorrow at Glevum Park, hoping to bounce back from a poor outing last time out losing 4-0 to Royal Wootton Bassett.

Rovers currently sit in 10th place but have played more games than any of the teams around them whereas Fairford are in the hunt for playoffs with the hope to gain promotion to the Southern Leagues.
