Cheltenham Saracens’ Beckem Foley reflects on a physical game against Worcester City

Cheltenham Saracens’ under-18’s manager, Beckem Foley, feels Worcester City looked down on his team after a 2-1 win last night in the GiantKillers cup.

The Sarries put on a spirited display to overcome a stern test against a side that have had a strong start to their season.

Foley was delighted with the win and feels as though his team should’ve been given more respect before the game.

“We know what Worcester are like.” Foley said post match.

“They are a very big club in their area. They play in the Midlands Floodlit Youth league, which is a very competitive and physical league.

“I felt they came down here today and sort of looked down on us really and they certainly won’t do that again.”

It was a closely fought game throughout, with both sides refusing to back down and risk themselves of missing out on a chance of silverware.

However, Foley relished the challenge of coming up against a team that have only lost once in the league this season.

“It was a really well battled game, to the point where it’s teeted over a bit and has gotten a little bit too physical at times.

“But I enjoyed the first half, it was a good tactical battle for me to try and figure out certain things and how they were playing.

“The second half was a bit of the same again, where they changed a few things and we had to adapt to that as well.”

The game got heated in the second half, when the visitors picked up a red card following a vicious stamp on Max Rose.

A few minutes later a member of the Worcester dugout was given his marching orders by the referee for dissent.

Foley wasn’t afraid to point out their opponents behaviour on the night.

“Emotions started to get the better for them really.” Foley said.

“We were in the lead and our dark arts may have worked to push them over the limit to do some silly things, get themselves caught and sent off.

“The dugout was after the ref all game.”

It was another standout performance from Henry Miles last night, who was at the forefront of every attack the young Saracens put together and was a nightmare for the Worcester defence all evening, rarely giving the ball away.

The number 10 has been a regular for the senior team this campaign at Saracens and was praised by his manager for being a “good example” to his teammates.

“Henry’s brilliant! It’s really important for him to maintain that challenge and continue to raise his performances in these games. “

“This is an opportunity for him to practise what he’s learnt in first team football.

“So it’s really important he is performing in these games as well and being a good example to the rest of the team.”
