Gloucester Rugby team news: Alfie Petch to get first start in Premiership Cup fixture

Gloucester Rugby have made seven changes to their matchday 23 for Saturday’s visit of Cornish Pirates for the first ever meeting between the two sides.

Ollie Thorley replaces Josh Hathaway on the wing as the Wales international joins up with his national side.

Louis Hillman-Cooper is taken out of the matchday 23 with Max Knight taking his place, the former moving Morgan Adderly-Jones from inside to outside centre to accommodate him.

Archie McArthur comes into the front row while Alfie Petch is promoted from the bench for his first start.

Caio James is promoted from the bench into the backrow the final change of the starting fifteen.

On the bench are Aristot and Jono Benz-Salomon, brought onto the substitutes from the starting XV.

Jack Clement, Lewis Ludlow and Iwan Glynn finishes off the changes for the Cherry and Whites.

Defence and Strategy Coach Dom Waldouck admitted he is expecting a tough challenge.

“The result last weekend will hurt them, and I think they are a good team, so we do respect them and therefore we are expecting a response in the game this weekend.

“And so what is that (Response)? I think it’s a very strong set piece team, a physical team, and a team that we’re going to have to be at our best to deal with.”
