Why Saracens will be playing against Hartpury RFC in the Greene King IPA Championship next season

Saracens will be relegated from the Gallagher Premiership at the end of the season after failing to comply with the salary cap regulations. They had already been fined £5.4 million and deducted 35 points but have received further punishment for failing to open up their accounts to a forensic financial examination.

Many believe that Saracens are still over the £7 million salary cap for the 2019/20 season and that the club had the option of releasing their accounts or be demoted and they chose the latter.

The initial fine and points deduction was given to Saracens after it was deemed that they had breached salary cap regulations over the past three seasons.

Saracens thought that they had found a loop hole in the rules by paying their players through individual companies and properties. However, an investigation into the club ruled that they were breaking regulations.
